Anhui Medical University was Dongnan Medical College, established in 1926 in Shanghai. Moved first to Huaiyuan County, Anhui Province, at the end of 1949, and then to Hefei, the capital of Anhui Province, in 1952, Dongnan Medical College changed its name to Anhui Medical College. In June, 1996, approved by the National Committee on Education, Anhui Medical College was renamed Anhui Medical University.
Today there are totally 16673 students at the university, of whom 179 are enrolled in doctoral programs,2728 in master’s programs, and 8867 in undergraduate programs, plus 95 international students (including those from Hong Kong and Macao) and 7187 students enrolled in the School of Extended Education. Currently, the university has 24 directly affiliated teaching units and ten affiliated hospitals, plus 42 clinical schools and 37 teaching hospitals. Other professional practicing and teaching bases connected to the university are over 100. The university at present offers 29 undergraduate programs and options.
Regarding advanced studies, the university has eight doctoral programs, five first-rate-discipline master’s programs,64 master’s programs, and five professional degree programs. the university was authorized to offer an MD degree in clinical medicine and a professional degree in stomatology at master’s level.The two degree-grantings, especially that of MD, symbolize a major breakthrough in the advanced professional education in Anhui Province, making it possible for the university to cover in its curricula the full-range professional education at undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels. Three post-doctoral programs have been set up in pharmacy, clinical medicine, and public health and preventive medicine. The university owns one national key academic discipline and 22 provincial key academic disciplines, as well as 27 provincial key clinical-medicine disciplines and priorly-supported disciplines.
The university also owns two key laboratories of the Ministry of Education co-established by Anhui Province and the Ministry of Education, 13 laboratories co-established by the central (the Ministry of Finance) and local authorities, and 19 key laboratories (technological and engineering centers, and public scientific service facilities) at provincial level or above. Besides, the university is the national base for the study of clinical medicines and chemical reagents. Two courses offered by the university have been ranked among the National Elite Courses, and two programs approved nationally as the featured ones among the institutions of higher learning.
The university typically has won a national second prize for teaching.Two faculty members of the university hold the directorships respectively on the Committee of Dermatology and Venereology of Chinese Medical Society and on the Committee of Clinical Pharmacology of Chinese Pharmacological Society. Four faculty members of the university have been elected to the international and national status of the project “International-, National-, and Provincial-level Talent.” Two faculty members of the university have been specified by the Ministry of Education as “Teaching Cadre” title holders. Five faculty members of the university have been designated by the Ministry of Health as “Young and /or Middle-aged Experts with Spectacular Contributions.” Two faculty members of the university hold the title of “Wanjiang Scholar”, a specially appointed professorship. Five faculty members of the university have been singled out as experts on the Advisory Board of College-level Medical and Pharmaceutical Disciplines of the Ministry of Education. Again, the university has launched the organization of “Overseas Legion” for an extensive highest-level talent attraction, specifically, for those from abroad, as indicated by the name of the organization.
The library of the university is the provincial Center Library in Anhui Province, which shares biological and medical literature nationwide via cyber-space or internet. The university is the owner of 46 research institutes at both the provincial and university levels. Fifteen national-level learned journals are published by the university and issued nationwide. In the recent five years, the university has taken on a total of 209 scientific research programs, among which are such renowned ones as “863” and “973” Projects, Projects Supported by National Science and Technology, and National Natural Sciences Foundation Project.
The university has won totally 76 provincial prizes in scientific research and, in 2020 and 2020 consecutively, won the first prizes of Chinese Medical Science and Technology. In 2020, the university won each one of the second prizes of National Science Progress and the first prizes of College-level Science and Technology of the Ministry of Education. Substantial exchange has been fostered between the university and colleges or universities in Hong Kong and Macao, and other countries. Exchange programs of scholars, students, and technical information have been established for collaboration in scientific research.

IV. Application Requirements
Applicants must have a good command of English. All the courses are taught in English. Applicants’ mother tongue or second language must be English, or they should have learned courses in English. They should be skillful in English listening, speaking, reading and writing. Applicants whose mother tongue is not English must provide eligible IELTS score of at least 5.5 or TOEFL score of at least 61 or any certificate showing the applicants have equivalent English proficiency of 5.5 for IELTS or 61 for TOEFL.
Undergraduate scholarship recipients must register for Chinese-taught credit courses. They are required to take one-year preparatory courses in one of the 10 universities listed below and to pass the required test before moving on to their major studies.
Undergraduate scholarship recipients can apply for preparatory course exemption if they completed their secondary education in Chinese or have a valid HSK certificate that meets the requirements of the host university. Official documents from secondary schools or a photocopy of a valid HSK certificate must be submitted for a preparatory course exemption application. Please NOTE that HSK results are valid for only 2 years.
Applicants with advanced Chinese proficiency can apply for Chinese-taught credit courses.
Requirements of Diploma, academic scores and scientific research capacity
Undergraduates: Applicants must be high school graduates. They must have passed English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology graduation exams. Their physics, chemistry and biology exam results must be above B+ or 70%.
Postgraduates: Applicants must provide Bachelor’s degree diploma, recommendation letters from 2 experts and research plan.
Doctoral candidates: Applicants must provide Master’s degree diploma, Master’s thesis, recommendation letters from 2 professors or associate professors and research plan.
Applicants can’t have any adverse record. Applicants must submit their graduation certificate, exam result sheet, passport and identity card. Applicants must be between 18 and 30 years old.
Applicants under 18 must submit letter of authorization for guardianship.
Applicants must be healthy and have passed health check-up.
Applicants must have sufficient financial support for all the fees.
V. CSC Scholarship Application
The applicants should send their applications in time to the College of International Education (hereinafter referred to as CIE) of AHMU before May 31, 2020
1. Applicants must be non-Chinese nationals in good health.
2. Education background required and age limit:
Applicants for master degree studies must have bachelor’s degree and be under the age of 35;
Applicants for doctoral degree studies must have master’s degree and be under the age of 40.
3. The scholarship cannot be combined with any other scholarship.

Take a taxi at the airport exit. You may have the address “梅山路安徽医科大学” printed in Chinese and show it to the taxi driver. It takes about 40 minutes and about 80 yuan (RMB) from the airport to the university.
2．Registration of the New Students
Please come here with X visa for registration during the workday within the fixed time．If you can’t come for any special reasons，you must ask for the extension of time from the university within two weeks. Otherwise, you will be regarded as giving up the matriculation according to the regulations of the university.

X. Registration Items
Admissions and Registration
Article 1 When a freshman registers, he/she shall deal with the enrollment procedures at the University at the prescribed time by taking the valid passport with the valid study visa (X1) or residence permit , Admission Letter (original), the remittance proof as required, Visa Application for Study in China (original) (Form JW202 for self-supporting students and Form JW201 for students granted with Chinese Government Scholarship), and the Medical Examination Documents (original). In case of any special circumstance, under which the student is unable to arrive at the University on time, he/she shall ask for a leave in advance to the Admissions Office of the School of International Education of Anhui Medical University, and the duration of the leave MUST be less than 7 days ((a period of 7 days extended from the latest date for registration prescribed on the Admission Letter). Those who get the approval on leave will have the right of delayed registration. Those who fail to get approval of delayed registration or those who fail to register within the required period will be subject to cancellation of admissions qualification.
Article 2 The freshmen shall honestly fill in the Registration Form for International Students of Anhui Medical University required by International Students Management Office of the School of International Education. The accommodation will be arranged uniformly by the Logistics Department of the University after the freshmen sign the Accommodation Agreement. Students Management Office arranges all the freshmen to take a medical examination at the required institution in Hefei, and those who are unqualified for the medical examination according to the health standards required by the Chinese government or the University will be subject to cancellation of admission qualification, and shall leave China within 30 days ((a period of extended from the date of entry) and their travel expenses must be covered by the students themselves.
Article 3 International students must arrive at the University on the prescribed date and take the valid passport and student ID to International Students Management Office at the beginning of each semester for student status registration. Those who are not registered mustn’t participate in the University’s various teaching activities, and the Office will not issue any official certificate or letter for them. In case of any special reason resulting in the failure to return to the University as required, the application for a leave shall be submitted to the class counsellor in advance, and the Students Management Office will decide whether to approve the application based on the actual situation. Those who have not asked for a leave and those who fail to get the approval of a leave shall return to the University as required, or their absence will be recorded. Those who have not asked for a leave and those who fail to get the approval of a leave MUST return for the registration procedures within two weeks ((a period of 14 days extended from the commencement of the courses in the new semester), otherwise they will be subject to the cancellation of their status as students of Anhui Medical University.
In order to make the freshmen adapt to the new environment and for safety’s sake，you must reside in the International Students’ Building Dormitory for the first academic year．After one year，you can freely make your choices of either staying on-campus or off-campus．
The International Student Building is a modern apartment building with 18 floors，equipped with full supporting facilities in the room，such as color—TV set，refrigerator，air conditioner，cable television, broadband internet etc．The apartment has only double rooms , each of which has a washing room, a bathroom and cabinets．We also provide public kitchens and laundry rooms．

2．Points for Attention
a. When you check in，please show your passport，passport photocopy and the lodging receipt from the Financial Office．You need to pay 10(RMB) deposit to the reception desk to get the room key．No students are allowed to change rooms on their own．In one year，when you check-out to live outside the campus, we will return the deposit to you if no damage is found to the room and its facilities．
b．Before you live in the International Student Building，you need to sign a lodging agreement with the Student Apartment Management Center．
c．The students building provides all necessary furniture including bedding, such as bed sheets，quilts，cushions and pillows．It is necessary to prepare other personal articles of daily use by yourself，such as toothpaste，toothbrush，towels，scissors，notebooks. You can buy them at the small shops on campus.
d．After your entry of the apartment，you need to take care of your private belongings．Don’t put large amount of cash in the room．You can deposit in Bank of China near the university．When you carry large items out of the apartment，please register with the reception desk at your building．
e．Please strictly obey the management regulations of the apartment．
Food and Drinks
It’s convenient to dine on campus．You can easily find Chinese food restaurants，Muslim Restaurants etc. Gradually you will get familiar with the environment in this cosmopolitan city-Hefei．You’ll enjoy visiting and dining in different flavors of restaurants in Hefei．
Urban Public Transportation
The public transportation system consists of buses，taxes and subway (under construction)，most of the international students living out of the campus choose bicycles as means of transportation．
In China the traffic is on the right side of the road．A valid driving license is required for driving cars and motorcycles in China．Driving Licenses issued by foreign countries can’t be used here．
We have bought medical insurance for all the registered international students．If you are hospitalized due to serious diseases or accidents，your teacher in charge will help you claim expense under insurance policy．But the medical insurance doesn’t cover outpatient treatment fees．
Passport，Visa and Residence Permit
Foreigners who lodge in China must have a valid passport，visa or residence permit．When you come to China to study，you must apply for an X visa．Foreigners holding X visa，must get residence permits within 30 days of entry from Hefei Exit-Entry Department of the Public Security Bureau．Otherwise it is illegal to stay in China．Before your passport，visa／residence permit expires，you must extend them，or it is against the law to live in China．Any violation of the law will lead to punishment，varying from a fine，detention for investigation to repatriation．Therefore you must keep an eye on your passport and residence permit to avoid being overdue．
The department that conducts administration of foreigners is Exit-Entry Department of the Public Security Bureau．Your teacher in charge will help the newcomers to perform all the necessary procedures for the first time．In the following years the students need to go there and extend their visa／residence permit each year by themselves．Remember to go to your teacher first to make an appointment with the Exit——Entry Department at least two weeks before your visa／residence permit expires．
